Ocean Identity Research
Research Rationale:
The concept of ocean identity provides a valuable lens that can be used to unpack the multiple dimensions of relationships with the ocean, and crucially places values and emotions at its center - addressing the gap in current models of ocean literacy. As this concept of ocean identity emerges in how we understand, not just formal students in this way, but diverse informal educational audiences who seek out participation in ocean education activities, we must seek to continue exploring different groups’ ocean identities. Thus, this work seeks to develop a new instrument that can be used by CTSG and numerous other organizations in the assessment of informal ocean education, engagement and outreach contexts.
